In September 2018, Mubadala Energy established a joint venture to develop certain oil fields within seven license blocks in the Tomsk and Omsk regions of Western Siberia together with Gazprom Neft and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

Mubadala Energy holds a 44 percent interest in the Gazpromneft-Vostok joint venture with Gazprom Neft holding 51 percent interest and RDIF the remaining five percent interest. Gazpromneft-Vostok remains a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft and is the operator of the fields. In 2021, oil production from several fields totaled approximately 31,000 barrels per day.
